Techniques for Data Mining the Internet to Support Situation Awareness for Homeland Security


The vast amount of data being captured via the Internet and through other digital sources has made the mining of this data a very significant task. The importance of this has been amplified with an increased need for situation wareness. In this talk we introduce tools that help in the data mining process. We look at some clustering techniques, particularly the mountain method. We describe this method and show how it can help in rule generation. Then we consider a new approach to learning and adaption based on the participatory learning method.
